Budgets & Costings

(Story So Far: In order for us to get a water-tight agreement with pTerry, we need a Lawyer, for the lawyer we need a basic idea of costs)

(DS) So far, Thom has worked his way through the script, snipping and tucking and overall making a brilliant adaptation happening.
I therefore suggest that making budgetary estimates based on suppositions and assumptions based on knowledge of the *book* are close to a waste of time ince the book and the screenplay are fast becoming two very separate entities.

(CW)and I say the best way to do this is for the people doing props, etc to to go with the book and those with more knowledge of the script should edit their work.
*SNIP*. Summery: DS needs Script to make Treatment.

(SMc) I need to know which characters aren't going to be in it, and how much stuff we can borrow

(CP) as far as costume goes, incidentals/extras can share as long as they are near the same size. We only need a certain number of basic costumes, and the main characters. The set of main characters will not, to my knowledge, change.
(SMc) Costume depends on what we're able to borrow. I'm going to look into hire costs for stuff like an orang utan outfit. But right now I just don't know
(DS) didn't someone get a hold of an Ooker outfit at one point? Check Archives

(DS) Can I get a clear picture here of the situation regarding a camera? Not to put too fine a point on it, Eelco hasn't been here for a while, so if that option flakes out, what's the contingency

(Ali) I need to talk to my Dad about the use of his digital video camera, but it depends on when/where it's needed
(DS) what sort of digital camera? (Ali) not entirely sure
(DS) Can you find out? If we can't shoot this thing properly, then the whole project's a moot point.

(DS) To make Maskerade work, we're going to need what's called a "development budget". This money is for those individuals who are spending money *now* making the preparations happen.

(CP) basically everyone needs to keep track of their costs
Script development for a feature film takes about six months and costs on average about £30,000, Now, because we're not making a professional feature film, that sort of money is not needed.

However, we have a starving artist scribbling away in a rat-infested dungeon and this is NOT A GOOD THING As a consequence, I move that we commit funds right away for the following:
  1. script development
  2. location scouting
  3. legal consultation
  4. venue fees (if needed) for audition space
  5. travelling allowance for those who *really* need it
  6. whatever else anyone else can think of.
  7. Now, this means that we need money *NOW*
To this end, the little fund-raising schemes proposed in the past, combined with the cash that *some* of us here are proposing to spare should be instigated *now*, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE MOVIE HAPPENS OR NOT (We need money, Right)

Any Other Business

(TW) As the copyright remains with pterry for the script, etc, how far will we legally be able to diversify from the original text?#
(DS) I don't think it's really a problem - after all, the name to come after Pterry's is yours (NA) I suspect the script will have to be passed by pTerry anyway for approval. But you'd have to ask, or get our Named Representitve (EJ) to.
