Session Start: Sun Jun 10 09:54:15 2001 *** Now talking in #movie *** Topic is 'Maskerade: The Movie: Production Meeting starts, 10am BST' *** Set by Corinne on Sun Jun 10 09:49:22 Hi heya :) *** Corinne sets mode: +o Nanny_Ogg Anything new from last two meetings? I missed them. we've decided to do a preview scene to give potential investors and pterry something to go on. durham audition happened yesterday, and those involved are keeping schtum about it. Thanks *** Joins: eric mornin' :) hiya *** Joins: Kincaid yo oy *** Corinne sets mode: +o eric *** Corinne sets mode: +o Kincaid mornin all Hi Kincaid *** Joins: lonecat I spose you'll want to kmow about the Durham audition? hi Susan :) uh huh *wave* *** Corinne sets mode: +o lonecat eric: well, duh :) my Durham Audition Report, by Eric Jarvis (age 43) *** Corinne changes topic to 'Maskerade: The Movie: Production Meeting in progress' Durham has lots of hills and nice old buildings the end but *how* nice where the building?! we need to know, damn you! but we did sorta get two actresses auditioned oo... Good spelling but content a little weak. C+. Must try harder. Excellent! Any good? I'm not going to learn C+, far too hard one excellent, one adequate What parts are they going for? IMO we've had an enthusiastic mail from two people, one who wants to be agnes, the other perdita. doh. LOL Maybe the next stelp will be them revealing that actually they're the same person but wanted to convince you of their ability to be a multiple personality? they were in the room when I arrived having just finished rehearsing a show...which we went to see on account of only Susan, Simon and myself being there did you remember to film them? :) Corinne...they were videoing the evening performance and can send a copy if we want one...which we will would either of them fit for any of the leading roles? yes...but I'd rather not start fitting people to specific roles till we know who else we have True. What's happening with this meeting? Are more people going to be here, or is it just us lot? the excellnt one is ever so French which is limiting yess... unless shes really good at accents. thom says christine could be french. it's something to think about AFTER we know who we have available and what roles we actually need to fill or rather, it wouldn't be so difficult to cast as french. but the thing that immediately comes to mind is the dress shop scene eric: you only had two auditionees, why can't you tell us your theories on them? I don't like casting one step at a time...you can start assuming things you don't need to *** Joins: Aquarion *wave* hey nick *** Joins: SoupyD *** Corinne sets mode: +o Aquarion Hi there, Aquarion - where did you get to? ...I'd much rather have a complete list of characters and performers and match the two all at once This is me popping in to say that I /still/ won't be here for this meeting :-) hi Nick...good journey? Hands up those who aren't here? *** Corinne sets mode: +o SoupyD oh...thank you Corinne aq: what's the agenda then? eric: Dull :-) *Eric's body raises hand* *Eric's brain rasises hand* *they fight it out amongst themselves* eric: you're confusing the newbie Corinne: Results of Yesterday, Status Reports, AOB * SoupyD looks around for the newbie Corinne...I confuse me most of the time Hi, Soupy D - don't think we've met... not "the london venue" then? or is that in status reports? sorry, nanny...hi...i am soupy and it's good to be here * Corinne hands soupy an oscar ty, i would like to thank my drama teacher London...I'm waiting for IC Dramsoc to call me back on Monday...they are running the Summer Ball this weekend and all the techies are busy/drunk Are we still aiming for 23rd June for London? Nanny...I'd much rather mid-July eric: tell the mailing list on monday that you've got it then, or we will set the hounds on you. eric: the enthusiasm is for this month. by next month it will have worn off. The main problem we have at the moment is the Notts we don't want to hold ALL the auditions in the final week of University terms Nick...what's the problem for Nottingham eric: No people eric: it means more people will be around to come to the auditions that way. Hmmmmm...... yes...... see the problem. But mid-July people will be on holiday. There isn't a perfect time. Plenty for London, One for Durham Avril McCormack and Ian Hichens for definite...probably plus three four others... But the only responce we have had from Notts is Afpers who want to watch/help one possible for nottingham - lives in norwich. ...my sister's am dram group recently did a reading of Wyrd Sisters * SoupyD raises a flipper Just shout out, Soupy - we don't stand on ceremony. lol...ty, nanny (We did, but ceremony complained we were squashing him.) nanny: but do we balance balls on our noses? i was hoping to audition in Nottingham or is that tmi... ...she's asking a selected group of "older" women and opera sized people SoupyD: Ahh, yes. You said London or Notts, yes? yes...prefer Notts, as i will be on holiday myself the week after for a couple of weeks somebody should ask jester who he knows Corinne: Well, whatever turns you on, but this might not be the place to discuss it ;-) eric: late june would be better - you catch the uni people in their last carefree days, and the holiday makers ditto. Right, Before I have to go, Could we get all the people who are supposed to be coming to the auditions at various places that I don't know about on a list to email me please? Then we can get an idea of how many people are supposed to be turning up nick: alright. Nick...yep...but I won't have a full list for Nottingham until Wednesady ok eric: Fine, just so we can get an idea. Nick...two definite so far SoupyD: The details for the Notts audition are on the website (http://afpmovie.orcon.net.nz) i have seen them ty, nick eric: Email it :) Right, I have to prepare for the coming of the American Lawyers. TTFN * Nanny_Ogg waves at Nick bubye nick *** Quits: Aquarion (Black is white, up is down, short is long.) sounds ominous afpa should have a note of the Nottingham audition *** Joins: Joy hello joy hi Joy :0 hi all, sorry I'm late ) my fingers appear to be hung over :( eric: we'll wait for the first one to come through, I think. Corinne? does not compute the announce? yep it hasn't made it out yet, according to my puter. OK and was posted what, two weeks ago? the announce system is singularly unreliable atm :) Thats what comes of having one moderator with a home puter which works one day in ten and another moving house I think such things happen i don't want to poke my nose in where it isn't wanted here...but may I ask a few more questions? (more, as in some of my questions were already answered last night) SoupyD...ask away ty, eric 1: is there a working script yet? on it's way soupy: no. it's still in progress. *** Corinne sets mode: +o Joy ok, ty, corinne ta 2: is there a character list? 2: Yes. soupy: reliant on script, but susan has one for costume. would it be possible to see the list? I think i've got it somewhere ty, lonecat may I have a copy for character themes please Corinne? ok,...3: how far into pre production are you? susan: could I have a copy for the website? arg lost it found it Soupy...bear in mind that different people may have very different ideas of the characters, and that for casting purposes all of these ideas will be considered equally valid... ...though some (mine) will, of course, be more valid than others absolutely eric again...agreed as co-director you have that luxury susan: don't suppose you can send it to me and joy, and soupy of course? :) I'm going to put it online ok. 4: who is supplying the imps? SoupyD...fortunately I don't have a clue as yet...I'm still sticking strictly to what is in the books :) soupy: various and sundry :) lol we've all got our demons ;) I don't have a demon...nasty company...I have dircons 5: have you decided the format of filming? VHS, 16 mm 32mm etc *sigh*, this project needs money. http://www.dur.ac.uk/s.m.mckever/castlist.txt This was the initial version so it's still got some costume notes in it oh my...that is a large cast! This may change once we have a script it's got an Opera House full of omnes Soupy: 5: I think the whole thing is going to be recorded onto VHS, but the format it's filmed in will depend on what cameras we can borrow without having to pay huge amounts of money for them. that is a fair answer nanny :-) we are hoping to shoot somewhere around the digi Beta mark or above quick question from me: ...but we'll settle for hwat we can get joy:? I see the following as the key characters (ie need themes) Nanny, Granny, Agnes/perdita, Bucket, Undershaft, Andre, Salzella, Greebo, Basilica, Mr Pounder, Walter/Phantom, Mrs Plinge -- is that about right? christine too/ ? did I not list her/ I meant to :-) 6: has a production schedule been set? SoupyD...no...though some rough deadlines have been set...though not in stone ok...and back to... ...shooting schedule can't be set until we know cast availablity 3: how far into pre production are you? moderately early fine... i know that this is an entirely amateur production, right? yep basically, we're nearly as amateur as we are in print :) by definition it must remain so ...and be seen to be so eric: because, lets face it, we are. And also surely for copyright reasons? * eric looks at bank statement from my tour of the website, albeit limited, due to sleeping, i can see that some people have experience and some are more enthusiastic than experienced...not a bad thing mind you, just trying to get a handle on what this group is trying to achieve looks taht way to me Corinne soupy: we're trying to acheive something that looks as good as we can get it. but there are barriers to that aim :) sure, Corinne...mainly finacial ones right? indeed we are trying to achieve something that uses the skills we have to the maximum whilst sidestepping as many of our weaknesses as possible finance we cannot feasibly get *until* we have something to show for ourselves, which itself requires money. well, may i make a suggestion? some aspects of the film will be excellent, some will be poor to middling Suggest away, Soupy! *any* suggestions welcome. suggestion written on the back of twenty pound notes especially so in order to produce something of this magnitude, you need to from day one, enter into it with the conviction of belief...ie, believe in yourselves, the project, and your capabilities...also, believe that regardless of any obstacles, the project WILL be completed, and in budget, and on schedule yep wow, theCult of AFPMovie! this way, the entire group will give off an air of professional filmmakers, even though the AIM is to have an entirely amateur production we need to poke the writer into believing in himself atm :) Kincaid...damn and blast...you have seen through mu plot... ...and I'd have gotten away with it if it weren't for those pesky kids once this belief is achieved, anything is possible...from getting freebies from your local catering company, to getting cash from friendly businessmen (and women) Corinne...and he's probably the best of any of us soupy: the thing is we can't offer them anything in return, being also non-profit. yes, you can SoupyD...we can't do that until we have a final permission to go ahead from Terry ...there are still one or two things need to be done before we can get that advertising...this is the business' life blood...with a credit at the end of the movie, or cleverly "altered" product placement, it is how BIG movie producers get their movies made and we can't have any kind of permission without a lawyer, and bothe the lawyers and terry want a budget, which people seem reluctant to even *Guess* at. Is PTerry going to be able to give us official permission? I'm confused about this - I thought the situation was that he _wouldn't_ be able to give us any sort of official go-ahead, but might be able to ignore us, so to speak...... soupy: we have a limited audience, otherwise it would compremise Terry. i understand, eric, but i believe that if you go into a project of this nature, you need to assume that PTerry will give that permission guesstimate budget will be emailed to you later today in that case he's not going to give permission, he is, as nanny says, going to ignore us under the terms that all copyright, etc remains his. SoupyD...yep...but there is a point where contractual obligations can be made with other people...that point has not yet been reached i was looking over some minutes last night from earlier meetings... Corinne...I understood he would give permission, but not rights if the project of Maskerade falls through, then there is the option of a fan based fan written original story, is there not? ...and the permission would be on a basis that it could be withdrawn at any time Ah - gotcha, eric SoupyD...can we continue this as any other business afetr we've got the basic meeting out of the way? my apologies eric "You've got people with previous movie experience offering to help? For those who've spent time dealing with the murky end of the movie industry, this makes little red lights go on all over the panel. You want to raise money? Sponsorship? More lights... " fizzackly we've sort of covered Durham anything else on that before status reports? also "At best, what you would get would be interpreted as less a permission than a carefully worded absence of a veto" hello? * SoupyD wits *** Joins: eelco status reports? waits even hi eelco :) Hi there, eelco Good morning all. *** Corinne sets mode: +o eelco Music: slow, slow, slow, but steady-ish ho hi eelco eric: promise to post news of london venue to list within a couple of days? as soon as I hear back from Eddy at IC which won't be until Monday eric: you said that last week... yep...but now I know why he wasn't around ok new website is up, people with suggestions please email me, we need more stuff on there :) locations...Assembly Rooms at Durham have a fly gallery...AND a wooden roof above it Corinne: The website looks great thanks :) *** Joins: Ali hi Ali :) *** Corinne sets mode: +o Ali Hi Ali hi ali mornin ali Hi hi all - sorry I'm late, overslept tsk...unforgivable ;) ...so dead bodies hanging from ropes should be done in Durham eric: wouldn't somewhere in london be more economically feasible? Corinne...find a fly gallery with a wooden roof above and yes...but I'd be amazed if such things exist in more than three or four places ...normally theatres that have a fly gallery are actually quite modern... ...because it's something stage crew like to be done with relatively new kit ...on account of the fact that flying heavy stuff on old kit can be somewhat dicy I suppose if you're not going for particularly exotic shots, you'd only need a small number of people to go up to Durham to film that bit ...so if the ropes and bars etc can be set in similar positions it would be ideal to shoot bacstage scenes mostly at IC and the looking up at the bodies shots in Durham.. only needs a couple of actors to be in the gallery that way Ali...yep *** Quits: SoupyD (Read error to SoupyD[pc1-whit2-0-cust159.cdf.cable.ntl.com]: Connection reset by peer) *** Joins: SoupyD who *was* that masked man? ouch sorry...booted I'm trying to be careful with "seen it, like it, want it"...but the flies at the Assemply Rooms are one *** Parts: Joy *** Joins: Joy oops, wrong button anything else? not from me I'm going to take some photos When the weather's a bit nicer I've spoken to my mother re dining room, and as the house is in the middle of rebuilding, she's said no, but she'll looke round for a suitable location. lonecat...ITYM when it's possible to photograph something other than water on the lens Ok, then I am going to risk it: anything known about the script. Especially: which scenes are already definite? joy: tell her thanks :) shall do :-) eelco: yes ;) and no. I've found a shop that I want to take pictures of even if we don't need that shot *** Corinne is now known as thom Rephrase: is it poissbile to get a very preliminary version of the script if I promise I wont make any comments on it (I know about ahrassed writers, oh how I know), but just to get an idea what is going to happen? * eelco repeats: i will not harrass the writer ...because harrassing the writer is Corinne's job well, the thing is that the script is in pieces atm. in pieces? uh.. scenes all over the place it is no longer a single file. wise i'm attacking the book in bite-sized chunks, see? it's easier than an a-b approach. thom: veryy sensible and is more akin to the way we will use it...since we won't be filming a-b :) so the answer is "yes, there are definite scenes, but the script itself is tricky to make sense of" would it be worth just having a list of which scenes are definite...we know roughly how they go um.. yeah, if you want. i've written a list of scenes i'm definitely using (it's on paper... once i put it on a pooter, it'll go on the website, i have no doubt) helps me prioritise which bits I think about That would be nice. from there, i'll just join the dots until we have a screenplay :) it's the computer age...writing from the beginning to the end is old hat :) true, but pen and paper is still my preferred drafting medium, i'm afraid... * eelco prefers pencil, but recognises the idea paper?...what is this paper of which you speak? *** Joins: Thomas eric: it's the stuff you apparently don't get in offices these days hi Thomas hi Thomas :) Hi Thomas morning it's an analogue recording medium entailing a stylus and real time handwriting recognition an recording 'thomas Thom:Gads - how do you manage to write anything without being able to pick up sentences and plonk them somewhere else whenever you want! ooooooh, both the directors in the same (virtual) place! Hi Thomas thom...so I'm told...but I get confused because there seems to be ever more of the flat white stuff that I used to think was called paper, but which obviously must ne something else be thom: yes, eric and i can exist in the same place without the universe collapsing anyway, i'm working atm on the preview, which should be done.. oooh, this week. thomas; i dunno, i feel something's collapsing... * Thomas raises an eyebrow *** thom sets mode: +ooo Thomas Joy SoupyD so...it was Thomas' eyebrow that had collapsed honestly, thomas, must *everything* be a double entendre? ta are we progress reporting or... ? yep...progress reports right *** Quits: lonecat (Read error to lonecat[m7-mp1-cvx2a.lee.ntl.com]: Connection reset by peer) ...and double entendres so i see thom...for audition purposes...any aspects of any characters that you think may be difficult to find performers able to do...I've got my own list, but would like to be sure of covering your vision too... eric: do you have an actual list that I could see? i'd be interested in seeing that.. ...cos I have a set of exrecises set up to show off those aspects of performance...and I can still alter it as yet, but once I start using it then it'll set in my mind quite quickly *** Joins: lonecat re thom...it's on (wait for it) paper...I'll email this afternoon paper? bah. did it on the train :( *** thom sets mode: +o lonecat mostly Thomas...do you want a copy too? yes, that'd be useful 'k hmm.. seems bt is playing merry havok with my e-mail also...I have a few copies of a scene to use for reading from in auditions...but if anyone else has an ideal scene in an electronic format, then I'd really like something that was not a succession of dialogues ...not from MAskerade though...shouldn't audition using the production script wasn't going to suggest it good...it's an argument I've had in the past...and some people seem totally tied to the idea that you should...and every argument I've heard makes me more certian you shouldn't eric: what e-mail addy have you got for me? but the best scene I have available is noweher near ideal Thomas...I have no idea...whatever Eudora has in it's files :) ah.. ok :) Thomas...email me a blank for whatever addy you want to be emailed at on the subject of which...what is the state of play on @maskerade.org addys I'm going to drop off in about 6 minutes sleep well Kincaid we have no idea because we have heard nothing from chris since we transferred the site to his servers (which is inaccessible to us) Nah, I'll be back, it's this bloody two hour cutoff *** Parts: Kincaid 'k *** Joins: Kincaid1 re karla *** thom sets mode: +o Kincaid1 eric: should be there thanks Thomas just a quick question... do we have an agenda, and how far through it are we? cos I'm going to have to toddle off in a while progress reports are no. 4 any other business should be next of? ta I'm done * lonecat waves * Thomas turns eric over on the grill * eric sizzles i have nothing more to say. Might not be here next week *hope* (except perhaps "bikkit!") wannabikkit? right.. No.5 destruction of the universe... no...wannacoffee :( New Extraverse is up (gratuitous, monthly irrelevant plug) Lonecat: Is that a hope you'll be able to avoid us next week, or a hope that some other interesting event is going on? and 6. the dessert trolley punch and pie hope that I'll be in London with the SO * SoupyD has one final thing to add do we know how many people are going up to Nottingham next week? ooh? 'k SoupyD TY. eric Ali...3+ definite Ali: Not yet, but Aquarion has asked for people to e-mail him with figures. I hope to do some location scouting after I leave Durham. Depends if I find a job and when the parents go on holiday I will, I may even audition, but I can't act ...several more likely 4+ i have some experience of stage and television work, as well as being a fina actor...if there is anything you would like me to do to help during pre production, please feel free and let me know Excellent! There's bound to be. hmm... have we solved the 'we need sound people' problem? you betch SoupyD :) I'm a sound person ok.. :) in the sense of reliable, (she says, running for cover) lending us sound equipemtn sound person? :) Thomas...not entirely...I have emailed somebody with list details who has extensive sound experience...but I'd MUCH rather he was acting Tried speaking to Stewart, as a first step? hmm... ok he may not have, but he might know someone who does. Adrian Ogden? possibly that it? *waves the gavel* * thom waves back at the gavel right... all done, no other business, see you all next week *bangs gavel* seeya OUCH! Have a nice day all. *** Parts: Kincaid1 is that legal? *g* *** Quits: eelco (Quit) :) Don't know when I'll be here next week - working till 11 am, plus inevitable overrun time & journey time home - probably not till 11.30 at least by the time I get on-line. Joy...wash your mind out with soup this instant, young lady] with soup? Won't she get little bits of carrot left in the corners? soap eric: soap is utterly insuffiecient, I thought you knew that. you can't mean that? Anyway - so apologies from me for next week Bye, all, & take care it's the middle finger on my right hand... *** Disconnected Session Close: Sun Jun 10 12:21:26 2001
