Session Start: Sun Jun 17 10:03:48 2001 * Logging #movie to 'logs\#movie.log' [10:03] *tumbleweed* [10:04] do *you* know the way to Santa Fe? [10:04] no, but I know the way to San jose [10:04] Nope, No Prarie Dawgs [10:04] oops. [10:05] I'd start, but the main topic is supposed to be yesterday's auditions [10:05] And nobody who is here was there. [10:05] anything interesting said last week BTW? [10:06] If somebody has the logs for last weeks meeting, could they send them to me? [10:06] *** Kincaid has joined #movie [10:06] *** Jens sets mode: +o Kincaid [10:06] Howdy, Kincaid [10:06] hi Kincaid [10:06] ah. In transit? [10:07] hi [10:07] No, but I have the logs for this meeting. [10:07] Hi kinc [10:07] Jens: So do I :) [10:07] sorry Nick, I don't this week -- I cleared all my logs down during the week [10:07] hiya, kincaid [10:09] *** Corinne has joined #movie [10:09] *** Jens sets mode: +o Corinne [10:09] *retumbleweed* [10:09] *whistlin wind* [10:09] sounds like my modem... [10:10] rollin' rollin' rollin' keep them dawgies rollin' [10:10] rawhiiiide! [10:10] I take it nothing's happening then :) [10:10] my hide's raw enough, thank you [10:10] david: tmi [10:11] well, I wen't to the audition yesterday... [10:11] and? [10:11] * Kincaid shoots the apostophe [10:11] it was good [10:11] yeah? [10:11] did anyone turn up? [10:11] Many people? [10:11] 8, not icluding Eric [10:11] cool [10:11] better than 2, anyway :) [10:11] he seemed happy enough [10:12] 2... was that the tally for the Dureham evt? [10:12] yup [10:12] is there video evidence? [10:12] unfortunately [10:12] Oh goody. [10:12] were they any good? [10:12] not for notts, o [10:13] Let's hope the London one goes better... I plan to be there, but unfortunately I don't plan to act [10:13] jens: we've had hundreds for london :) [10:13] have we seen anyone who's any good yet? [10:13] erm, ask Eric :-) [10:13] joy: one of the ones at durham was good apparently. but french. [10:13] but he did seem happy with those who were there [10:13] Eric, have we see... oh. [10:14] good for any particular role? [10:14] you'll have to ask him [10:15] but he doesn't like to "define" so "early in the game" [10:15] yep [10:16] Flo (the French one) speaks good english, don't worry! [10:16] but can she do accents? [10:16] It would strike me as a bad idea to say if someone perfect for a role had already been found, as it would discourage others for auditioning. [10:16] Don't know, but I think it's likely. [10:16] Is anyone here on the acting side? [10:17] I'd like to be - it's what I originally came in for - but I don't hold out much hope. [10:18] aq: you gonna audition in london? [10:18] Aq: if only dribs and drabs turn up to audition, you may very well got what you wished for... [10:18] dunno. depends if I get volunteered^Wcast [10:18] Corinne: Yes [10:19] David: Yes, but I've been fielding the responces for the auditions. Some of the London people are fairly professional. [10:19] When's London again? [10:19] 7th July [10:20] a sunday...urgh. [10:20] Oh well ... not too long before we find out, eh? [10:20] Er.. wasn't it the 8th? [10:20] possibly. [10:20] memory ain't what it used to be ;) [10:20] 'twas. That makes me feel better. [10:20] there were several AmDram types at Notts, and several other good "never acted since third sheep at school nativity" types [10:22] London space booked for 2pm to 6pm, Sunday 8th of July [10:22] How did *you* feel it went? [10:22] well [10:22] Ha. I was Balthazar at school nativity. To that if you can. [10:22] I mean, did you feel that the people you were watching could fill the roles competantly? [10:23] s/To/Top [10:23] yes [10:23] Jens: I was the Angel Gabrielle. I kid you not [10:23] Jens: shepherd boy, and I had to wear a tunic that looked more like a dress, which I hated. [10:24] *** eric has joined #movie [10:24] ah, the man with the news! [10:24] I was a King, once. wore my Dad's graduation gown [10:24] speak of the devil... [10:24] hi eric [10:24] hi all...sorry I'm late [10:24] welcome. [10:24] Tell all, eric :-) [10:24] so how were the auds? [10:24] eric: you should have that on automatic :) [10:24] Jens...big hug...welcome back to the real world :) [10:25] Hi Eric [10:25] *** Jens sets mode: +o eric [10:25] good audition from my POV...8 people all useful...some able to take leading roles [10:25] *** eelco has joined #movie [10:25] Goodmorning [10:25] 'lo eelco [10:25] hi eelco [10:26] Hi ellco [10:26] *** Jens sets mode: +o eelco [10:26] hi eelco [10:26] any more detail than that? [10:27] I'm shatterd though...four and ah lf hour train journey back [10:27] ewww [10:27] *hugs* [10:27] from notts? wow, an alltime record for railtrack, methinks. [10:27] you find a good restaurant? [10:27] I don't know that I should in front of one of the auditionees :) [10:27] g'day Eelco [10:28] Kincaid...I found a good old fashioned chip shop with seats....perfect [10:28] Ah, effnik food [10:29] anyway...4 men, 4 women [10:29] eric: could you post to the list your own ideas on character description...looks as well as psychology? [10:30] Corinne...OK [10:30] was a video taken? [10:30] do we know any of the 8 -- from meets and so on? [10:30] nobody arrived with a video camera [10:30] blast [10:30] names [10:30] me, supermous, hippo, alistair [10:31] did sm audition? :) [10:31] yep [10:31] Alistair Dent [10:31] Karl Sherratt [10:31] Avril McCormack [10:31] Ian Hichens [10:31] Hayley Marsden [10:32] Mark Datko [10:32] Kathy Saric [10:32] Supermouse [10:32] Dent... he was the opera society bloke, wasn't he? [10:33] he's a potential pro...very subtle...very good [10:33] ...very nice mohican hairstyle [10:34] can we hide it? :) [10:34] I can see him in several major parts [10:34] wigs fit over mohicans [10:34] *** hippo has joined #movie [10:34] hi hippo [10:34] hi [10:35] 'lo mark [10:35] hi hippo :) [10:35] g'day, hippo [10:35] *** Jens sets mode: +o hippo [10:35] Hi hippo [10:35] fortunately my sister was quite good...would have been embarrassing otherwise :) [10:37] I've got a good set of notes on everyone...but a video would have been useful [10:38] I now turn over the keyboard to patrick, who's here as well... [10:38] hi patrick :) [10:38] *** eelco is now known as eelc_patr [10:39] yes, time for me to drop in as well. I did volunteer, after all ... [10:39] patrick: regretting it yet? ;) [10:40] nah, definitely not. [10:40] main thing is...I'm now 100% confident we can do this without anyone embarrassing in front of the camera [10:41] ok, that's half of it covered then. How about anyone embarrassing *behind* the camera ;)? [10:41] [10:41] I could try a somersault...it wouldn't work, so it'd be *extra* embarrasing. [10:41] worst we'll have is some people who have to be worked with a bit before shooting starts [10:41] do we have anyone with any camera experience? I'm guessing yes, but... [10:41] things like framing shots, and smooth pans, etc., can take practise [10:42] I have some experience of really bad camera work, if that helps. The fact that I'd need the world's most powerful zoom lens might help... [10:42] that's one of the reasons I'd like cameras at auditions [10:42] well, eelco has some, and I have done some camera work back in the eighties (full length movie at school). But that was super8 camera, which might or might not be different from stuff used today. [10:42] the DOP is responsible for framing etc - the camera operator is the person who follows the orders of the DOP [10:42] good practise [10:43] Jens: I don' tthink anyones invented a telephoto lens that follows teh curve of the earth... [10:43] if the DOP or camera operator have any concerns, anxieties etc, there are a few books around with tips and tricks [10:43] david: my apologies - my only experinece in this is at school in a rather informal environemtn... [10:44] and I've only pointed a still camera [10:44] Simon: don't apologise - half the fun of making this film is people learning the intricacies of making a film... [10:44] Ok, I'll now refrain from apologising for apologising ;-) [10:44] and if what I'm suggesting is too formal, don't worry - films can be made informally too. [10:44] do we have an agenda today, or are we just nattering about yesterday? :-) [10:45] Simon: with suitable atmospheric conditions, it's almost possible [10:45] what I did check is how much people fidgetted whilst speaking...we did some reading whilst being "totally" still and I framed with my hands to see how they would work in close up [10:45] Simon: Agenda /is/ nattering about yesterday [10:45] aq: fair enough... [10:46] Followed by "Major Topics for the next few weeks" "Status Reports" and "Any Other Business" [10:47] Anything else anyone would like to say on the subject of the Auditions? [10:48] -> [#movie] PING [10:48] I'll take that as a No then :-) [10:48] I'll second that no [10:48] Can we *please* be sure there's going to be a video camera at the London audition? [10:49] Eric? [10:49] ? [10:49] What are the chances of a camera for the London Audition? [10:52] OK...so who has a camera at all [10:53] eelco might have a camera, depending on whether his parents need it - I am planning on buying one later this year, but before CCDE. [10:53] but then, we're both not in England . [10:54] thomas might know someone with a camera [10:54] might/probably will [10:54] apparently does...but wasn't at Nottingham [10:54] Has the audition been [ANNOUNCE]d yet? [10:55] maaike...only got the booking conformed on Friday [10:55] confirmed [10:55] were you ever a conformist, Eric? [10:56] nope...not flexible enough, look silly in a leotard and never liked circuses anyway [10:56] maaike: It's been announced to all those who displayed interest in the London Audition [10:56] oh ok then [10:56] isn't that rather circular? [10:57] Aquarion...it should be announced on the list and on afp [10:57] I'll post one to afp. [10:59] we can take a maximum of 40 people as long as I have a couple of people to help run the thing... [10:59] ok [10:59] 25 or so if I'm on my won [10:59] own [11:00] can't your helpers make the london audition either? [11:00] eric: You announced on the list already :-) [11:00] I simply don't think I can keep my attention on more than 25 people at once [11:00] if thom and I can get there, he can help. [11:00] Nick...yep but it needs doing again sometime like the beginning of next week [11:01] remind me, what date is the london audition planned for? [11:01] I may have Marie Louise there to do some of it...but I haven't had a chance to ask yet [11:01] 8th July [11:01] eric: Okay, I'll put an announce together and crosspost it. [11:02] not that there would have been any chance to attend, but it's nice to know. [11:02] aq: none of that wishywashy stuff, it's gotta be strong and punchy. [11:02] we've got a genuine dance studio...so it should be an "interesting" atmosphere [11:02] is there a pub nearby? [11:03] hmmm...WC1...one or two pubs in the area [11:03] * eelc_patr are of to breakfast, but will remain joined on channel [11:03] Eric: pending accomodations, I'll be at the London thingie; I can probably manage to stop people setting fire to the place or whatever is required [11:03] brilliant Jens :) [11:04] Corinne: Okay, you can write it then. [11:04] Welcome to the concept of "Getting a job done properly" [11:04] heh heh [11:04] sorry nick :( [11:05] who's going to chase up a camera [11:05] ? [11:06] I'll ask thomas when he comes online next. [11:08] Right. So... Major topics for the next few weeks then? [11:08] Is Thom still writing? [11:09] David...nope...cos Corinne is using the puter to mess about on IRC right at the moment :) [11:10] Budget [11:10] Fund-raising [11:10] ideas people! [11:10] Treatment [11:10] and I really need those estimates if we're going to make *any* headway with terry. [11:11] Locations [11:11] Estimated costs, then. [11:12] * Corinne looks at the very first agenda we made...oo, almost identical. [11:12] Corinne...email me a request to send you my draft budget and I'll remember to send it to you [11:12] ok [11:14] my sister is asking a neighbour about his (currently bankrupt) period manor house with banquetting hall... [11:15] she's sending me brochures and I'll scan them...he's gone bust so the place is free till he can find new owners... [11:15] do we need something that large? [11:15] ...and hence might be ideal for filming the "trailer" [11:15] we can just use bits [11:16] just film the ends of the table [11:17] there aren't a lot of old buildings one can film in for several weekends entirely free [11:17] and sleep in *grin* [11:17] bound to be useful for something [11:17] That could be fun. A huge banqueting hall completely empty apart from four(?) people. [11:18] 6 :) [11:18] Nick...a large table where we film four people sat at one end...implying the width of the table is the length [11:18] think film not stage [11:19] look, it's a *small room*. all sides of the table are visible. [11:19] Okay, Does this mean we are on Status Reports now, or has anyone got suggestions of topics to put forward? [11:19] "a small exclusive dining room off from his office" [11:19] to quoe [11:19] t [11:19] if it's a period house, it'll have a suitable size room [11:20] get a trestle table and cover in a good cloth [11:20] sure, just not the lbooyd banqueting hall already :) [11:21] *** Supermous has joined #movie [11:21] hi Supermouse :) [11:21] hi all. apologies for tardiness. [11:21] heya sm [11:21] hi mouse [11:21] hi supermouse [11:21] hi mouse [11:21] gday, sm [11:22] Okay, Status Reports then [11:22] *** Aquarion sets mode: +o Supermous [11:23] I've got a few drawings of Christine done [11:23] music: no news, need to speak to stewart and get a picture in my head of the characters [11:24] maaike: Okay, I've got the Detritus and Plinge pictures ready to go up, so if you mail the Christine ones I'll put them all up together [11:24] 'k [11:24] Status: I temporarily exist. Should become permanent in about a week's time. [11:24] things are a tad slow here for the afpmovie, since I'm in the middle of production for my own film which has a completion date of the middle of September [11:24] jens: o, existential. [11:25] I say completion date - that shoud really be release date - the completion needs to be late August [11:25] I've mailed Elton, no reply as yet [11:25] Bank Account: I've sorted out who needs to sign what, and various papers are wandering around the UK being signed [11:25] so "being busy" here is a bit of an understatement [11:26] I also have the logs ready to go up, I'm just waiting for the Orcon server to let me have a connection that would be faster than swimming there and giving them in myself. [11:26] aq: you'll be waiting a long time then :) [11:27] I don't have any problems [11:27] it's probably better to do it electronically anyway, saves them gtting damp [11:27] Corinne: Hopefully this afternoon [11:27] if necc. mail them to me, and I'll put them up [11:27] If the worst comes to the worst, I'll put them up on the Aquarionics site :-) [11:28] great...site split again. [11:28] *** Nanny_Ogg has joined #movie [11:29] Hi. Sorry I'm late, just got off night shift. [11:29] hiya [11:29] hi [11:29] Gday, Nanny [11:29] *** Jens sets mode: +o Nanny_Ogg [11:29] Are the minutes so far on line anywhere? [11:29] hi Manny :) [11:29] *** Allistair has joined #movie [11:29] hi Allistair :) [11:30] wow; it's a crowd :-) [11:30] hullo [11:30] nanny: give me 2 mins - won't be dynamically updating though. [11:30] Nanny_Ogg: Not yet :) [11:30] *** Jens sets mode: +o Allistair [11:30] wow, 14 ppl!! There are 14 users on #movie [11:31] Anyone else with Stuff To Report [11:31] up to a minute or so ago, http://www.firecloud.org.uk/irc.log [11:32] messy though. [11:32] yep...Railtrack are rubbish [11:32] Nothing to report, gov [11:33] oh wow, look at this http://www.dresden.de/rootger/gast/03/05/030511.html [11:34] cool building [11:34] wow [11:34] not square enough for pedants though :) [11:34] eric: We know that :-) [11:34] Corinne: Nothing ever is [11:35] Aq: we forriners din't know. [11:35] Oh, *that* I like. "english?" [11:35] Jens: As an ideal, Keep it that way :-) [11:36] Jens...you should be able to tell by the fact that the only people who have a good word for Railtrack consider that "appalling" is a good word for them [11:37] See also: http://www.semperoper.de/l_4/index.htm [11:39] Aq - I just caught up with the minutes - are you still after a log for last week? [11:40] *** Jens changes topic to 'AFP:The Movie:The Channel:The Meeting:The Topic' [11:40] *** Simon has quit IRC (2.8.2-EPIC3.004 -- just do it.) [11:41] *** Simon1 has joined #movie [11:41] *** Simon1 is now known as Simon [11:43] *** Needle- has joined #movie [11:43] hi [11:43] hi [11:43] Nanny_Ogg: Yes, Could you email it? [11:43] owdo Hayley (sp?) [11:43] owdo? [11:43] how-do [11:43] and yes you spelt it rightohhh [11:43] good thanks, yourself? [11:44] OK now [11:44] Aq: Sure. Might have to wait until after this meeting, though, as I'm not sure if I can open the file while further logs are being saved to it (which might be just my computer ignorance) [11:44] hi Needle [11:44] hi needle [11:44] eric: hi [11:44] mous: hi [11:44] nanny: you can make a copy of the file while it's still active. [11:45] Aha! Thanks, Corinne - how do I do that? [11:45] find the file, click on it, then use the edit menu to copy, then paste. [11:46] *** Allistair has quit IRC (Ping timeout for Allistair[host217-32-149-171.hg.mdip.bt.net]) [11:46] *** Jens sets mode: +o Needle- [11:46] *** Jens sets mode: +o Simon [11:46] Jens: wossat? [11:47] you now have erei godlike powers [11:47] oooo [11:47] erie? [11:47] thanks [11:47] never looks right, that word [11:47] erie [11:48] as in Indiana [11:48] eerie :) [11:48] eyrie for eagles [11:48] ahh [11:48] Okay. Any Other Business? [11:49] there's no business like show business [11:49] Just an innocent enquiry into how Thom's progressing [11:49] none at all? [11:49] like no business I know [11:49] yeah. Thanks to eric for the work he put in yesterday. It was fun. [11:49] everythng about it is apalling [11:49] thom *shrugs* [11:49] ;-) [11:49] ah yes, yesterday :) [11:49] oh, no, that's *appealing*, isn;t it [11:49] I second mouse [11:49] Ethel Merman never had it so bad... [11:50] joy: could be both... [11:50] AOB: does anyone have a luxurious penthouse, or a guest bed, in London, available from the 7th to the 9th? [11:50] Corinne: OK ... I guess it's a waiting game now. How are you settling in to your new pad? [11:50] Jens: I think you picked the wrong weekend for me to offer, alas. I'm pretty sure my parents said they had guests over that weekend. [11:51] thanks for auditioning...it was very good from my POV too [11:51] (Which is annoying, as they would have had spare beds if it had been next w/e as originally planned ) [11:51] eric: :) [11:51] david: just fine, apart from the money situation. [11:52] Aq: Got the file copied, thanks to Corinne: which e-mail address should I send it to? [11:52] Nicholas@Aquarionics.com, if you would be so kind. [11:52] Nanny...I simply physically can't handle doing another audition next weekend [11:53] Cor: same old same old, eh? [11:53] david: pretty much. [11:53] ...need soem recovery time [11:53] Eric: Fair do's. Can't be helped. Oh, well, I suppose I'll enjoy getting a w/e off as well. [11:54] I'm going to bow out now, unless someone has anything they want to ask me before I go [11:54] Okay, I declare this meeting closed then :)
